Academy Black is a premium granite sourced from the United States. It presents a deep, uniform black hue with a subtle, fine-grained texture that lends an elegant, contemporary look to any space. The stone’s compact grain makes it highly durable and resistant to scratches and heat, making it ideal for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, and high-traffic flooring. It responds beautifully to polished, honed, and brushed finishes, each highlighting its sleek, dark character. Marmi di Carrara supplies Academy Black in ready-to-install blocks and 2–3 cm slabs, with cut‑to‑size options and detailed photographs of actual slabs before purchase, ensuring you receive exactly what you expect.

Academy Black Granite: the complete guide

Overview

Academy Black is a dark grey, almost black granite, speckled with light crystals. It is chosen for hard-wearing, understated surfaces, indoors and outdoors.

History and origin

It comes from California, in the United States, and is used mainly in the North American market for construction, street furniture and memorials. Its dark, even colour makes it suitable for projects that call for a rigorous look. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Appearance

The background is dark grey, with a medium-fine grain and light specks spread evenly. Variation between slabs is limited, as is typical of granites. Polished, it looks almost black; flamed or brushed, it becomes a lighter, matt grey.

Uses

Suitable for kitchen worktops, floors, stairs, façades, street furniture and memorials. With textured finishes it is suitable for outdoor paving.

Care and maintenance

Water and a neutral detergent are enough; on dark polished surfaces it is advisable to dry them to avoid limescale marks. A periodic impregnating sealer helps on kitchen worktops.
