Noir Saint Laurent: the complete guide
Overview
Noir Saint Laurent is a black marble with thin, interwoven golden and white veins, of great elegance. It is one of the most sought-after classic blacks for luxury interiors.
History and origin
The French name denotes a black marble with a long tradition, used for fireplaces, floors and furnishings in classic style. Its availability can be limited, which is why materials of similar appearance, such as Port Laurent or Portoro, are often considered. It remains a benchmark for those seeking the contrast between black and gold. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is deep black, crossed by golden, ochre, white and grey veins that form a fine, irregular network. The pattern varies greatly between slabs, from almost black areas to densely veined ones. Polished, it enhances the contrast between black and gold; honed, it has a softer, graphite-like effect.
Uses
Perfect for fireplaces, walls, bathrooms, vanity tops, tables and floor inlays. As flooring it creates elegant rooms but requires care, because dust and marks show on black. Not recommended for exteriors or hard-working kitchens.
Care and maintenance
Clean with neutral detergents and dry with microfibre to avoid smears. Apply a stain-proofing protector that does not alter the polish. Avoid limescale removers, bleach and abrasive sponges.
