Persian Red Travertine: the complete guide
Overview
Persian Red Travertine is a travertine in red, coral and orange tones, with lighter natural bands. It is chosen for its rare colour, highly striking in cladding.
History and origin
As its name suggests, it comes from Iran, a country with a large production of coloured travertines. Red is one of the most unusual and sought-after variants, often used for feature walls and decoration. The shade can vary greatly between blocks, from deep red to orangey pink. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is red with transitions towards orange, pink and cream. The bands are wavy and more or less dense, with the small cavities typical of travertine. Polished and honed finishes enhance the intensity of the colour, while brushed makes it warmer and more matt.
Uses
Particularly suitable for walls, bathrooms, interior floors, fireplaces and furnishings. Outdoors it should be used with caution, because sun and weathering can fade its colour over time.
Care and maintenance
Well-executed filling and a protective impregnator are essential to keep the colour vivid. Clean with neutral detergents, without acids or limescale removers. Polished surfaces can be revived with products specific for calcareous stones.
