Blanco Extremadura Granite: complete guide
Overview
Blanco Extremadura is a light Spanish granite, white-grey with dark speckling. It is chosen for bright paving and cladding that must stand the test of time.
History and origin
Extremadura, in western Spain, is a region with a long tradition of quarrying light and grey granites. Blanco Extremadura is widespread on the European market for urban paving, façades, stairs and tops. It is appreciated for its bright appearance and good workability. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is greyish white with light quartz and feldspar crystals and small black minerals, often mica. The grain is medium and the pattern fairly uniform, with slight variations in tone between lots. Flaming makes it very light and uniform, while polishing highlights its crystals.
Uses
Highly suitable for outdoor paving, squares, pavements, kerbs, stairs and façades. Indoors it is used for floors, kitchen worktops and bathrooms. Being light, on kitchen worktops it should be protected against oil and coloured liquids.
Care and maintenance
Outdoors, periodic washing with water and a neutral detergent; a water repellent reduces dirt and smog stains. On interior tops use a stain-proofing impregnator. Avoid aggressive de-icing salts and strong acids.
