Kashmir White Granite: complete guide
Overview
Kashmir White is a light commercial granite, with a white-grey background speckled with small garnet crystals. It is chosen when you want the resistance of a siliceous stone with a bright, delicate look.
History and origin
It is an Indian material, geologically close to gneiss, which entered the international market as a light alternative to traditional granites. In recent decades it has become one of the most sought-after whites for kitchens and bathrooms, especially in minimalist interiors. Like many light stones of this type it can vary considerably from one batch to another. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is milk white tending towards pearl grey, crossed by faint grey undulations and dark red garnet specks. The distribution of the garnets and grey areas changes from slab to slab, so it is advisable to choose the slabs in person or from photos. Polished, it gains depth and the garnets stand out, while honed it looks more uniform and soft.
Uses
It is suitable for kitchen worktops, bathroom tops, floors, stairs and cladding, including outdoors. As it is more absorbent than dark granites, on worktops it should always be protected with a good impregnating sealer.
Care and maintenance
Treat surfaces with a stain-repellent impregnating sealer before use and renew it periodically, especially in the kitchen. Water and a neutral detergent are all that is needed for daily cleaning; oil, wine and coffee should be wiped up without leaving them to act for long.
