Lake Placid Blue is a natural stone quarried in the United States. Although marketed as a granite, it is petrographically a megacrystic anorthosite, distinguished by medium-grained bluish-black plagioclase crystals with a subtle chatoyant shimmer. The colour reads as deep blue with charcoal and slate-green undertones, giving interiors a calm, watery depth with minimal veining. Known in the trade as Atlantic Green or Cold Spring Blue, this granite is prized for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, flooring, wall cladding and staircases. A polished finish best enhances its iridescence, while honed, flamed or brushed surfaces suit contemporary schemes. Marmi di Carrara supplies Lake Placid Blue as blocks, 2 and 3 cm slabs and cut-to-size pieces, with photos of the actual slabs before purchase.

Atlantic Green Granite: the complete guide

Overview

Atlantic Green is a dark green granite with a speckled appearance. It is appreciated by those looking for a dark but not black surface, with natural highlights and high durability.

History and origin

Green granites are among the most sought-after in architecture for their deep and unusual shade. Atlantic Green is an imported material available on the international market under a trade name. It is used for worktops, cladding and furnishings. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Appearance

The background is dark green, with lighter and darker grains that create a speckled effect. The intensity of the green and the size of the crystals can vary between batches. Polished, the green becomes deep, almost bottle green; with matt finishes it tends towards grey-green.

Uses

Suitable for kitchen worktops, bar tops, bathrooms and premium cladding. It is also used outdoors for thresholds, steps and façades. It is a good choice for traffic areas thanks to its dark shade, which hides wear.

Care and maintenance

Clean with a neutral detergent, without waxy products. A light protector keeps the colour even over time. Dry hard water to avoid limescale marks on polished surfaces.
