Perlato di Sicilia marble: the complete guide
Overview
Perlato di Sicilia is an ivory-beige marble, compact and uniform, quarried near Trapani. It is one of the Italian marbles most used for elegant, bright floors.
History and origin
It is quarried in the Custonaci basin, in the province of Trapani, one of the most important marble districts in Italy. Perlato has been widely used in public buildings, hotels and homes, in Italy and abroad, thanks to its neutral colour and good workability. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
A light beige, almost ivory background, very uniform, with small spots and rare darker veins. Polished it has a pearly look, hence the name; honed it is soft and natural.
Uses
Floors of homes, offices and hotels, cladding, stairs, thresholds, window sills, vanity tops. Its uniform colour makes it ideal for large continuous surfaces.
Care and maintenance
Clean with water and pH-neutral detergents, drying with a soft cloth; avoid acids, bleach and abrasive products. A water- and oil-repellent treatment after installation reduces staining and should be renewed periodically in busy areas. Professional honing and polishing remove scratches and dullness.
