Verde Alpi marble: the complete guide
Overview
Verde Alpi is a dark green stone with white and light green veins, quarried in the Aosta Valley. Elegant and classic, it has been used in churches, palaces and prestigious interiors.
History and origin
It is quarried in the Aosta Valley and is a serpentinite (ophicalcite) sold as marble. Thanks to its deep colour it was widely used in architecture, especially in the 20th century, for floors, cladding and decoration. There is also a Verde Alpi Scuro variety. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
A dark green, almost black background with white and light green veins and networks. Polished it has great depth; honed it becomes a softer green.
Uses
Floors, inserts, bathroom cladding, fireplaces, furniture tops, thresholds and decoration. Perfect combined with white marbles in patterned floors.
Care and maintenance
Clean with water and pH-neutral detergents, drying with a soft cloth; avoid acids, bleach and abrasive products. A water- and oil-repellent treatment after installation reduces staining and should be renewed periodically in busy areas. Professional honing and polishing remove scratches and dullness.
