Ruby Red Granite: complete guide
Overview
Ruby Red is an intense red Indian granite speckled with dark crystals. It is chosen when you want a stone with a bold colour that is robust and also suitable for outdoor use.
History and origin
It is a granite from India, where reds are among the best-known and most exported products. It has long been used for cladding, paving, street furniture and monuments. The tone can range from ruby red to brownish red depending on the batch. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The dark red background is studded with black and grey crystals of medium to coarse grain, with a fairly regular pattern. Differences between slabs mainly concern the intensity of the red. Polishing gives a full, deep colour; flaming and bush-hammering lighten it towards pinkish brown.
Uses
Highly suitable for façades, stairs, outdoor floors, kerbs and monuments. Indoors it is used for kitchen worktops, thresholds and details where a strong colour accent is wanted.
Care and maintenance
Outdoors, periodic washing with water is enough. On kitchen worktops an impregnating sealer is advisable to make cleaning easier, even though absorption is already low.
