Tiger Skin Granite: complete guide
Overview
Tiger Skin is an Indian commercial granite with a red-orange background and black stripes reminiscent of a tiger's coat. It is chosen for surfaces of great visual impact and excellent durability.
History and origin
It is a migmatitic rock from India, in which light and dark bands alternate markedly. The trade name comes precisely from its resemblance to the feline coat. It is used on the international market for cladding, worktops and funerary art; there is also a less common yellow variant. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The red, orange or dark pink background is crossed by long, wavy black stripes, with some grey areas. The pattern is very strong and varies from slab to slab, so selecting and arranging the slabs is important. Polishing enhances the contrast; rough finishes subdue it.
Uses
Recommended for accent walls, bar tops, kitchen worktops, headstones and exterior cladding. Less suitable for large floors, where the pattern may be overwhelming.
Care and maintenance
Simple cleaning with water and a neutral detergent. A periodic impregnating sealer on worktops helps keep the surface even.
