Aalfang Granite: complete guide
Overview
Aalfang is a fine-grained light grey Austrian granite with a very homogeneous appearance. It is an understated, hard-wearing stone, suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
History and origin
It comes from Austria, where it takes its name from the village of Aalfang, in the granite region of the Waldviertel, in Lower Austria. The granites of this area are traditionally used in construction, paving and monuments. Aalfang is available on the European market as slabs and finished pieces. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is light grey, with fine crystals of quartz, feldspar and dark mica distributed evenly. The appearance is regular and differences between slabs are generally limited. Polished, it looks greyer and more compact; flamed or sandblasted, almost whitish grey.
Uses
Suitable for outdoor paving, steps, cladding, street furniture and interior floors. Its fine grain lends itself to precise pieces and crisp edges. It can also be used for kitchen worktops and bathrooms.
Care and maintenance
Maintain with water and a neutral detergent. A water-repellent treatment is useful on rough outdoor surfaces. Avoid harsh abrasive products on polished finishes.
