Azul Boquira: the complete guide
Overview
Azul Boquira is a Brazilian stone in blue-grey tones, sold among the granites. Its cool, unusual colour makes it suitable for surfaces with character.
History and origin
The state of Bahia, in north-eastern Brazil, is known for stones in rare colours, including several shades of blue. Azul Boquira takes its name from the municipality of Boquira, in Bahia. It is a niche material, exported in slabs in limited quantities. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is blue-grey, with shadings and lighter or darker areas that create movement. Colour and pattern vary considerably between slabs and blocks. Polishing intensifies the blue, while matt finishes make it greyer and more natural.
Uses
It is suitable for kitchen worktops, bathroom vanity tops, counters and premium cladding. It can also be used for floors. Given the variability of the colour, it is advisable to choose the slabs for each project.
Care and maintenance
Clean with neutral detergents. A stain-proofing treatment is recommended on worktops. Avoid abrasive products on polished surfaces.
