Texas Pink Granite: complete guide
Overview
Texas Pink is a warm-toned pink granite, tending towards reddish, quarried in Central Texas. It is chosen for cladding, monuments and paving that call for a bold colour and a very hard-wearing stone.
History and origin
Central Texas has outcrops of pink granite that have been used for over a century in the state's public and private buildings. The stone has become an emblematic material of the region, used for buildings, monuments and retaining works. It is available as blocks, slabs and finished pieces. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The background is bright pink with reddish tinges from the large feldspar crystals, alternating with translucent grey quartz and small dark minerals. The pattern is granular, with some variability in tone between batches. Polished, it shows saturated colours; flamed, it becomes a lighter, more even pink.
Uses
Ideal for façades, bases, monuments, stairs and urban paving. At home it can be used for kitchen worktops, floors and fireplace surrounds. Its intense colour calls for well-considered pairings, especially in small rooms.
Care and maintenance
It is unaffected by acids and frost: for routine maintenance water and a neutral detergent are all that is needed. On worktops, a stain-proofing impregnator makes it easier to clean off grease and oils.
