Multicolor Red Granite: complete guide
Overview
Multicolor Red is an Indian commercial granite with a red background crossed by black and grey veins. It is chosen for its lively, bold appearance combined with excellent resistance.
History and origin
It is a migmatitic rock from India, formed of folded and interwoven bands of light and dark minerals. It has featured in international catalogues for decades and is often found in construction, cladding and funerary art. There are several grades, with more or less black in the pattern. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Appearance
The red background is interrupted by black, grey and sometimes whitish veins and patches, with an irregular course. No two slabs are the same and the contrasts can be very strong. Polishing makes the red brilliant and the black deep; rough finishes lighten the whole.
Uses
Suitable for façade cladding, plinths, thresholds, kitchen and bathroom tops, as well as monuments and headstones. For large floors the very lively pattern should be assessed carefully, as it can become dominant.
Care and maintenance
It requires little maintenance: water and a neutral detergent. On kitchen worktops a water- and oil-repellent treatment, renewed over time, is advisable.
